Research Space 2007-2008

Goldfactory was contemporary art organisation located in Nottingham U.K. which ran an artists research space at the Eggerton Studios in the Oldknows Complex in Nottingham from 2006-2008. They were supported by two Arts Council England grants. This funding ceased in 2008 and the project was put on hold. During the two years several artists benefitted from showing or using the space and the archive gives full details of their activities.

The research space came about when artist Shaun Belcher suggested that his artist studio space at Eggerton Studios should be turned over to being a performative/research space whilst he was unable to use it due to work commitments.

Mik Godley and Paul Matosic came up with the original Goldfactory concept as a vehicle for displaying ‘mid-career’ artists. However Paul Matosic and Shaun Belcher ran the space with Paul Matosic creating the space and booking artists and Shaun Belcher running the web presence. Goldfactory encouraged recent graduates and older more established artists to use the space as they felt fit for a month as part of a rolling programme of practice-led initiatives. Each was given a short-term residency and encouraged to be as experimental as they wished in how they used the space.
